Community wildlife appeal, Daylesford
We started out of a shed in 2016 taking calls about injured possums and wombats, and we still run the roster the same way, off a whiteboard and a mobile phone. The appeal covers what the shelter itself can't stretch to each year.

The work
The trust operates two rescue vehicles and a small treatment room behind the Daylesford Neighbourhood House, staffed entirely by volunteers who take turns on the after-hours phone line. Everything raised through the appeal goes straight back into the animals that come through our door, most of them hit by cars or caught up in fencing along the Midland Highway.
“I rang them at ten at night about a wombat on Ballan Road and someone was there within the hour. These people run on donations and goodwill, nothing else.”
